Oshawa Real Estate Profile

Mar. 8, 2005: Oshawa Ontario real estate profile: Oshawa has a population of 146,000 residents and is located 50km east of Toronto on Lake Ontario. Being so close to Toronto means that Oshawa benefits from its proximity to the big city, yet residents have easy access to the Kawarthas and Haliburton regions.

The founding family of General Motors Canada Ltd., the McLaughlins, is responsible for many of the cultural centres and attractions in Oshawa. The Robert McLaughlin Gallery has over 3,000 pieces of art from Canadian artists. Four other museums depict the city's history.

Oshawa is also renowned for E.P. Taylor's equestrian operation, which has bred more thoroughbred stakes winners than any other place worldwide.

Downtown Oshawa offers a choice of unique shops, fine dining and casual restaurants. The Oshawa Centre is the biggest shopping mall in all of Durham Region.

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology in Oshawa is the country's newest university.

Elegant, established quarters surround Oshawa's downtown area. In the north end of the city, the construction of new homes is rapidly forming new subdivisions with new parks and schools.

Housing prices in Oshawa are about 40 percent less than in nearby Toronto. Two-bedroom houses go for $109,900 to $1,390,000. Two-bedroom condos run from $79,900 to $229,900.
